Vandeventer Black attorney Michael D. Pierce received the President’s Award at the 79th Annual Conference of the Old Dominion Bar Association. Pierce has been a recipient of multiple recognitions such as the South Hampton Road Bar Association’s Member of the Year for 2017 and Young Lawyer of the Year for 2018, as well as the Virginia Lawyers Weekly Up & Coming Lawyer for 2018.

“I truly did not expect to receive this tremendous honor. I am humbled by this recognition from the nation’s oldest statewide minority bar association,” said Pierce. “I intend to do my best to live up to the legacy of past ODBA members such as Oliver Hill, Henry Marsh, Samuel Tucker, William T. Mason, Jr., and the other great African-American attorneys who paved the way for myself and my contemporaries to practice law in the Commonwealth.”

Pierce’s practice includes matters involving labor and employment law, workers’ compensation insurance defense, maritime law, and commercial litigation. He defends lawsuits in both state and federal courts. His nuanced approach to legal writing and research makes him an asset to all clients, whether they are embroiled in intense litigation or seeking guidance on compliance and regulatory issues.
