Through an interactive series of activities and discussions with employers, Mission Tomorrow will encourage students to explore career interests and in-demand jobs from over 100 businesses in our region.

Students also will gain a better understanding of what it means to be prepared for a job and be exposed to various planning resources such as “Invest in What’s Next,” the “Virginia Education Wizard,”  and career and technical education resources within their localities.

About 12,000 public school 8th graders in all eight localities within the region (Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Richmond and Powhatan) are expected to participate. Eighth grade is a critical year for students as they are deciding on coursework pathways for the remainder of their high school years and beyond.

Through an interactive series of activities and discussions with employers, Mission Tomorrow will open the door of possibilities as students explore career interests and in-demand jobs from 100+ businesses in our region.

On November 1 and 2, 2017, public school 8th grade students will have the opportunity to attend the Mission Tomorrow event at Richmond International Raceway. At the event, about 100 Richmond region businesses will have booths with interactive activities designed to introduce students to the wide range of careers available in the Richmond region.  This information will be helpful to the students in making informed decisions about their futures.

You may wonder why an eighth grader needs to be thinking about future careers now.  The answer is that the course choices that a student makes going into his/her freshman year of high school can impact the career pathways available in the future.  Starting to about things a student likes doing and is good at is a good way to start the discussion about future careers.

Student Post-Event Survey

After the event, students will have the opportunity to qualify to win Ipads and free Kings Dominion tickets if they complete a post-event survey.  The survey will ask what exhibits and careers the student saw at the event that might interest them as a future career.  The responses will be provided to the student’s school to assist in career planning discussions. The schools can provide a range of pathways for students to progress towards future careers. We hope students and parents will use this event and these materials to discuss future careers and educational opportunities.

The event’s success hinges on the participation and enthusiasm of local businesses.

The region’s future depends on its future workforce. Mission Tomorrow puts your industry and the skills required for it on the radar of tomorrow’s workforce. This event is designed to introduce the next generation of the local workforce to a variety of career opportunities available in the region through interactive and engaging activities.

Many thanks to all of the businesses who are planning to have an interactive presence in this year’s event. Your commitment in helping to shape our future workforce is important to our region and greatly appreciated. We could not do it without you.

As we plan for November 1 and 2 we would like to remind you of several important details below:

  • SET-UP is Noon – 6:00 pm, Tuesday, October 31. Please arrive to the rear of the Exhibition Hall (largest building) at “Exhibitor Check-in” so we can assist you in locating your booth(s).
  • Event Days: Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2
  • Event Times: 8:00 am – 2:30 pm on both days
  • We ask you to report to the front entrance (foyer) area of the Exhibition Hall (largest building) at 8:00 am on Wednesday, November 1 for a quick welcome and exhibitor orientation
  • Exhibitors are assigned to a particular ZONE and each zone will have 15 to 30 exhibitors. There will be 5 zones.
  • Students will enter beginning with zone 1 and make their way to zone 5. Students will be in groups of approximately 400 (based on school size) and will spend 15 minutes only in each zone. They will make their way to the exhibits that interest them so please do not think that you will have 400 students at one time.
  • Please do not provide students with any literature, food, beverage, candy, etc.  Nothing can be provided to the students
  • Should you have needs beyond what we’re providing you complimentary please be sure to submit your order forms directly to the Richmond Raceway Complex and/or Exhibits Inc. Forms have been provided or you can find them on this page along with exhibitor resources.

We are excited to host this wonderful career exploration event for the 12,000+ public school 8th grade students throughout RVA and could not do it without your participation.

Together, we are making a difference and for that, we sincerely thank you!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering and/or recruiting volunteers for Mission Tomorrow.
