Glen Allen, VA, March, 2019
On Friday, March 8, 2019, from 8:00am to 3:00pm, Stratford University Glen Allen Campus will welcome up to 100 high school students from across the state to participate in the 2019 Virginia ProStart Invitational. More than 25 state-wide chefs and hospitality/restaurant industry leaders will judge the competition to select the winners, who will be awarded scholarships by Stratford University. The doors are open to the public – the event is free, and we welcome all to join us!
The Virginia ProStart Student Invitational is composed of two distinct competitions, management and culinary, showcasing the most important skills needed on both sides of the restaurant and foodservice industry.
In the culinary competition, teams will prepare a three-course meal in just 60 minutes, using only two butane burners with no access to running water or electricity. They will be evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, safety, and sanitation.
The management competition asks teams to develop a proposal for the next hot restaurant concept and present it to a panel of industry judges. They are also tested to solve challenges managers face on a daily basis.
The Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association is the sponsor for the Virginia ProStart division. The event is free and open to the public.
