Executives from Bon Secours, Allianz and Newport News Shipbuilding to headline UR’s fall C-Suite Conversations

PNC Bank and ChamberRVA support speaker series at Robins School of Business

Executives from healthcare, insurance and manufacturing will share their stories at the University of Richmond Robins School of Business this fall as part of the C-Suite Conversations speaker series. Leigh Sewell of Bon Secours, Mike Nelson of Allianz and Don Godwin of Newport News Shipbuilding will take the stage at the Robins School to share their professional journeys in conversations facilitated by UR’s Dr. Richard Coughlan. PNC Bank and ChamberRVA support this popular series, presented each school semester by the Robins School.

Leigh Sewell is CEO of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital and Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing – three major organizations within the award-winning Bon Secours Health System. Mike Nelson is CEO of Americas and global travel at Allianz, where he is responsible for the global travel insurance business and all of Allianz Partners’ businesses in the Americas. Don Godwin is vice president of business management and CFO at Newport News Shipbuilding, the nation’s sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two shipyards capable of designing and building nuclear-powered submarines.

Each leader will sit down with University of Richmond Associate Professor Dr. Richmond Coughlan for an unscripted, one-on-one interview onstage at the Robins School. Students, faculty and the business community are invited to listen to the executives’ discussion of their professional and personal paths. This spring, attendees heard from Courtney Paulk of Hirschler about how she went from theater major to the first female president of a national-caliber law firm, Neil Amin of Shamin Hotels about the company’s intentional focus on employee development, and Tom Farrell of Dominion Energy about renewable energy, electric cars and new Virginia data centers. Videos of previous conversations are available on the Robins School website.

“When leaders share the stories of their successes and failures with young people, the effects can be immeasurable,” said Richard K. Bynum, president of PNC Bank in Virginia. “Events like C-Suite Conversations help build the path for young talent to engage with and explore the professional world. PNC is proud to support this speaker series and foster the connection between the Robins School and the business community.”

Dr. Coughlan started C-Suite Conversations in 2011. Previous guests have included Denise Johnson of Caterpillar, Bill Rogers of SunTrust, Beto Guajardo of Starbucks and Karen Hoguet of Macy’s. Each conversation is filmed onstage in front of a community audience and made available afterward on the Robins School website. This semester’s three speakers will appear monthly from September through November:

“Through C-Suite Conversations, we’re connecting the leaders of today with the leaders of tomorrow,” said Kim Scheeler, president and CEO of ChamberRVA. “When we invest in lighting the way forward for the next generation to grow and lead, we’re investing in the future of our community. The Chamber is grateful that PNC has chosen to support the Robins School’s important work, and we’re proud to support it alongside them.”

Registration for each C-Suite Conversations event opens on the Robins School of Business website approximately one month before the event. All programs begin at 8 a.m. in the Robins School of Business, Queally Hall, Ukrop Auditorium, with a pre-event networking breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Programs are free and open to the public, but registration is required.
