Our Journey

For the past few years, ChamberRVA has reflected on the responsibility of the business community to respond to calls for social justice and anti-racism within the Richmond region. In 2020, we established a DEI Task Force to accelerate our efforts to align and engage the business community around goals to close race-based opportunity gaps and forge an inclusive environment where all identities are valued. In 2022, we launched the DEI Collaborative to help deepen our collective investment in diversity, equity and inclusion in ways that can have lasting impact for individuals, organizations, and our broader community.

ChamberRVA DEI Collaborative Commitment Statement

ChamberRVA affirms that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential to building a high performing workplace culture – and vibrant communities. We believe everyone in our region should have equal access to opportunity and share in Richmond’s economic prosperity. We also believe that our organization is uniquely positioned to address economic mobility.

We commit to standing united against racism and systemic inequities by investing in substantive change within our organization and community.

We commit to educating ourselves on the history of systemic racism and inequity within the Richmond region – and the barriers it continues to present today.

We commit to support and collaborate with nonprofit agencies, local governments, philanthropic organizations, and other community partners who work tirelessly in support of historically excluded communities.

We commit to help improve the diversity and readiness of our regional talent pipeline, so more people of color are included in opportunities and can succeed in them.

We commit to engage in ongoing programming and to share business practices that help close race-based opportunity gaps and forge an inclusive environment where all identities are valued.

We commit to utilize and share best practices, recommended actions, and training with our members and the community to help amplify our collective impact.

Task Force Overview

In 2021, ChamberRVA established a DEI Task Force in order to accelerate its efforts to align and engage the business community around goals to close race-based opportunity gaps and forge an inclusive environment where all cultural identities are valued. We engaged a veteran team of local DEI consultants, who met with multiple community stakeholder groups, to discuss and advise on the Chamber’s role to strengthen ways the Richmond region’s business community can advance economic inclusion and reduce economic disparities in communities of color. This efforts resulted in an action plan that outlines ChamberRVA’s overarching DEI vision and values, three strategic areas of focus, 2025 outcomes and a 12-month implementation plan.
