CultureWorks Richmond is pleased to announce the COVID-19 Arts & Culture Relief Fund. The Fund was created by a coalition of arts and culture partners: 1708 Gallery, Afrikana Film Festival, ART 180, Black American Artists Alliance of Richmond (BAAAR), CultureWorks
Richmond, Iridian Gallery, Studio Two Three, Oakwood Arts, and Visual Arts Center of Richmond.

The COVID Arts & Culture Relief Fund invites professional artists in all disciplines from the Richmond and Tri-Cities region who have been directly impacted by COVID-19 to apply for a one-time $500 grant. This grant is designed to help compensate for lost work and opportunities and to support basic living expenses. The grant will provide financial assistance for artists experiencing financial need including job losses, inability to pay rent or other bills, mental health services, medical care, child care assistance, and food insecurity, but not limited to these. To date, $40,000 has been raised in support of the Fund, with a goal of raising an additional $10,000, giving us the opportunity to support 100 artists.

A portion of funds raised over $50,000 will be allocated to a reserve to fund a grant to mid-size or smaller arts organizations at risk of permanently closing their doors. Criteria and amounts of these grants will be communicated at a later date.

This fund is intended for all professional artists in need. In order to mitigate systemic inequalities, we will prioritize applications submitted by individuals who have historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or socioeconomic status. The demand for these grants will likely exceed available funds so we recommend applying as early as possible.

Applications may be submitted online or with assistance over the phone. Applications open on Thursday, April 9, 2020.

For more information about applying or contributing to the Fund please go to or call (804) 353-0094. Thank you to our COVID-19 Arts and Culture Relief Fund Donors: Anonymous gift through the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond and Richmond Memorial Health Foundation.
